CUCC stands for the Canadian University Chess Championships. It is an annual chess event where teams from schools all across Canada gather to compete. Each year, a different school hosts the CUCC. This year, it will be taking place on January 16th-18th 2026 at the University of Toronto!
The CUCC is an amazing opportunity to challenge and learn from the top players from across Canada, and make unforgettable memories with your team.
This year, the Queen's Chess Club will be sending 4 teams to CUCC to represent Queen's University. Each team will consist of 4 players, and all teams will play in the Reserve Section of the CUCC (we will not be putting together a Crown team this year).
To try out for the team, you must participate in our 2025 CUCC Qualifiers, happening on November 22-23. If, due to extenuating circumstances, you are unable to participate in the qualifiers, please send us an email at queenschess@outlook.com. The final standings of the tournament will be our main reference when selecting our teams for CUCC. You must play in the Crown section of the tournament to try out for the team. You must also be available for travel the weekend of January 16th-18th, 2026.
The Queen's Chess Club is committed to making chess accessible for all, and as such we will subsidize a large majority of housing and transportation costs on behalf of our players. If you are selected for the CUCC team, you will need to pay:
The club will cover any necessary costs for accommodations/housing.
